Filter medium test..wmv

Video Description:
I am using a plastic tray with another plastic holder inside that has numerous small holes drilled in it to allow the water to percolate through. There is an Eheim 600 litre/hour filter that pushes the strained water through the upper aquarium, the water returns by an overflow pipe through the bottom of the tank.Another power head circulates water from the inverted aquarium next-door and returns by an overflow.
I was not going for "aesetics" here but a functional external filter that anyone could build from household utensils.
After 3 days the water was completely clear and ammonia/ nitrite levels hardly reading.
The same aquarium with a 60cm square base containing 5cm of gravel for an under-gravel filter would hold 17 litres of gravel. The external filter holds the same.New filter mediums are more efficient.Like ceramic or plastic tube to give a greater cross-sectional area for the nitrifying bacteria to grow on.
